Title says it all. I have been quiet for a while, haven't I? Well, what can I say -- sometimes, life just pulls you out of your circle of happiness, gives you a whole load of crap to deal with, and firmly tells you, "You aren't going anywhere until this is sorted out."
I shan't bore you with the details, but my life has been pretty darned hectic for the past few weeks, and suffice it to say, I haven't had a lot of time to spend on here. Hopefully things will be slowing down soon, though. And when they do, I'll be back!

Gaming Nostalgia: Sly Cooper
Out of all the things that have been lost in the era of modern gaming, perhaps the most tragic is the loss of the console mascot. The only current-gen mascot I can think of is Knack, the titular star of that PS4 launch title that everyone forgot about almost as soon as it was released. But back in the day, mascots were plentiful and memorable. There are the obvious ones like Mario, Sonic and Link, but I didn't really grow up with them. We were very much a PlayStation household, so I grew up alongside Sony's mascot lineup. For the PS1, we had Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon, and for the PS2, we had three to choose from. There was Ratchet and Clank, and there was Jak and Daxter—both well-respected, and both with a cracking lineup of games under their belts. But my heart belongs to the lesser-known of the three. The one who was waiting for seven-year-old me alongside a shiny new PS2 on Christmas Day of 2002. That was the world's greatest and most honourable thief, Sly Cooper. I
Gaming Nostalgia: Skyrim
Okay, so I'm cheating a bit with this one. The original Skyrim may be eight years old now, but with all the rereleases the game has gotten in recent years, I don't think it's quite as nostalgic as the other games I've covered. I'll also be covering an experience I had from the PS4 version, as opposed to my original PS3 version. Still, it's a game I have very fond memories of, and a game that I still love playing to this day. Life ain't easy when you're Dragonborn. I've saved the world from the apocalyptic threat of the dragons, won Skyrim's civil war for the Empire by defeating the Stormcloak rebellion almost single-handed, restored the Thieves' Guild to its former glory, led the vampire hunters of the Dawnguard in defeating an army of master vampires, and travelled to the far-flung island of Solstheim to face down against the very first Dragonborn. After all of that, nobody could say I hadn't earned a break. Hence how I found myself in the great city of Whiterun, in the Bannered
Gaming Nostalgia: Hitman: Blood Money
Many centuries ago, in an ancient kingdom, the king was being a bit of an asshole to everyone. One of his closest advisors had had enough of him, and sought to dispose of him, but could not do so himself without risking almost certain execution. So he found a brigand in a nearby tavern, and offered him a handsome sum of money to kill the king himself, quickly and discreetly. Thus the professional assassin was born. And in IO Interactive's Hitman series, you play as just such an assassin, including the first and only one of the games I played, Hitman: Blood Money on the PS2. In this game, you play as Agent 47, a bald, perpetually frowning clone who was literally designed for killing. And killing you do, under the employ of the International Contracts Agency, being sent to kill various people across the globe in exchange for handsome monetary rewards. Now, the idea behind Hitman is that you're supposed to kill your targets as quietly and cleanly as possible, preferably making it look
Gaming Nostalgia: Animal Crossing
In 2013, I had two main responsibilities in my life. Foremost among them was getting through my first semester of college, writing term papers about the rich and varied worlds of geology and plotting graphs and charts in a laughably small apartment where my laptop was more or less pressed directly into my face from the tininess of my living space. My other responsibility, believe it or not, was that of running a town. Yes, at the tender age of eighteen, I was the mayor of a small town. It was my job to ensure that it ran smoothly, that the citizens were looked after, and that the wheels of politics and bureaucracy turned smoothly, ever delivering us to prosperity and... Okay, you've seen the title of this journal, which means you've guessed the punchline. My experience of the Animal Crossing series comes from two games: Animal Crossing: Wild World on the Nintendo DS, and later Animal Crossing: New Leaf on the 3DS, where my mayoral duties came into play. In both games, you are a
